CFD-based Estimation of Friction Factor in Rough Pipes with Herschel-Bulkley Fluids

The appropriate estimation of frictional losses in a pipeline system is essential. So far, little attention has been paid to determining the friction factors with non-Newtonian fluids, especially rough pipes. This study aims at calculating factor using validated three-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics models Ansys CFX. Steady-state computations are performed three different incompressible Herschel-Bulkley fluids pipes relative roughness inner pipe surface ε = 0.0005 – 0.01. A power-law type bath gel as test fluid used for experiments validate our numerical model. results compared measured values and also numerous existing help generalization Reynolds number relevant engineering range Regen 100 40,000. paper shows that approximations can not accurately describe pseudoplastic On contrary, case Bingham plastic fluid, new, explicit calculation relation found unified form accepted by literature.
